Looking for something to do in Orlando that’s affordable, inclusive, and delightfully unpredictable?

We have the perfect recommendation.

The Orlando Fringe Festival is a world-renowned theatre festival held in Loch Haven Park every May.

Fringe Festivals go all the way back to 1947, when eight theatre companies arrived to the Edinburgh International Festival uninvited. With the festival occupying the major theatrical venues in town, they set up their performances in smaller spaces on the “fringe” of the festival.

Thus, the concept of the Fringe festival was born.

In 1992, the Orlando Fringe Festival held its first season. Since then, it’s become the longest-running Fringe festival in the country.

Every year, over 100 shows perform at Orlando Fringe. Artists from around the world apply to a lottery where shows are selected at random.

Orlando Fringe is an unjuried festival, meaning each show is invited to perform without needing the approval of judges or an admissions panel. It’s a truly uncensored experience where you never know what you might see onstage.

Low ticket prices make it easy for everyone to access independent theatre in a supportive and communal environment that celebrates artists from around the world.

From May 12 –25, 2026, Orlando Fringe will be hosting Fringe 35 in Loch Haven Park. Performance venues are hosted by Orlando Family Stage, Orlando Shakes, and Orlando Museum of Art.

Artists can also opt to participate in a “bring your own venue” performance, meaning their show will be held in a venue outside of Loch Haven Park.

Here’s an in-depth look at why you should plan to attend the 2026 Orlando Fringe Festival.

Key Takeaways

Fringe on a Budget

Orlando Fringe makes seeing new and exciting theatre affordable so everyone can participate.

Here’s how it works.

When you want to attend Fringe, you’ll purchase a button (pin) for around $10. That money goes directly to the festival, helping them with the costs of operating each year.

From there, you can purchase tickets to individual shows. All tickets are $15 or under, and prices are set by the artists themselves.

100% of the proceeds of each ticket purchased goes directly to the artist, many of whom have traveled from around the world to perform right here in Orlando.

Additionally, the festival features a variety of free outdoor events, concerts, and entertainment for patrons to enjoy.

The Whimsical: Magical, Creative, and Unexpected Shows

Fringe Festivals are known for their whimsical and unique performances, including clowning, puppetry, and musical oddities.

While some artists may be performing at Fringe for the first time, others are seasoned veterans, bringing back returning fan-favorites or introducing a new show.

Performances range from one-man (or woman) shows to full-scale musicals with dazzling chorus numbers.

Parodies of pop-culture favorites and cult classics are always popular Fringe hits, and you’ll likely find a variety of them scattered throughout the Fringe season.

While some shows are family-friendly, there are certainly a fair number of performances for audiences 18+.

Want to make sure you’re getting tickets to the year’s must-see shows? Check the Fringe app to read patron reviews and find out which performances can’t be missed.

The Wonderful: Heartfelt Art, Community, and Culture

Fringe is a place where everyone can be their authentic selves.

This colorful celebration of self-expression has a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that draws artists and patrons from every walk of life.

Wherever you go, you’ll feel a sense of support and encouragement that only the arts can provide.

There is truly something for everyone at Orlando Fringe.

Kids Fringe is a wonderful experience for families, a free weekend celebration with kid-friendly performances, activities, and attractions that encourage creativity, inclusivity, and play.

Visual Fringe is a diverse collection of art in a multitude of mediums made by artists around the world, displayed throughout various Orlando Fringe venues.

Everywhere you look, you’ll be surrounded by individuals who are passionate about the arts and building a community that celebrates every person who contributes, whether from the seats or the stage.

The Weird: The Delightfully Bizarre Side of Fringe

Around the world, Fringe festivals are known for their edgy, innovative, and downright weird vibes.

Each season could bring the return of cult favorites created and produced by Fringe veterans, as well as brand new late-night oddities.

For example, in 2022, a piece titled “A Young Man Dressed as a Gorilla Dressed as an Old Man Sits in a Rocking Chair for Fifty-Six Minutes and Leaves” took the festival by storm, becoming a must-see production. And yes, it was exactly what it sounds like.

At Orlando Fringe, you’re just as likely to see an out-there one-man puppet show as you are a full-scale musical inspired by an obscure cult classic movie from the 1970’s.

The best way to experience the “anything goes” ethos of Fringe is to approach it with an open mind and a willingness to be entertained in an unconventional way.

Navigating the Festival Grounds Like a Pro

For two weeks in May, Orlando Fringe transforms Loch Haven Park and its surrounding venues into a collaborative and cultural fairground.

Loch Haven Park is home to Orlando Family Stage, Orlando Shakes, Orlando Museum of Art, and the Orlando Science Center.

At the center of these venues is a large green space, affectionately known as The Lawn by "Fringers.”

The Lawn hosts a variety of food trucks and vendors cooking up a variety of delicious treats and cuisines to satiate every appetite.

Despite its name, The Beer Tent slings beer, wine, and liquor to be enjoyed in between shows or during free concerts on The Lawn.

Seating is available in tents and throughout the green space for a laid-back and comfortable experience with plenty of great people-watching.

One of the trickiest elements of the Orlando Fringe Festival is parking. There are two parking lots in Loch Haven Park, one in front of Orlando Family Stage and one shared by Orlando Shakes and Orlando Museum of Art, both of which offer free first-come-first-serve parking. But they fill up quickly.

If you’re not arriving early, you may want to plan on finding free street parking or paying at a nearby lot. There’s one across the street from Orlando Science Center.

How to Pick Shows Without Overspending

With over 100 shows performing at the Orlando Fringe Festival every year, how do you pick which ones to see?

At the start of the festival, everything is new and unknown. After a few days, various publications begin releasing reviews of each show, homing in on which are the must-see's of the season.

You can track Orlando Fringe Festival reviews on their official website, as well as publications like the Orlando Sentinel.

Word of mouth is another great tool for making sure you don’t miss the next big hit of the festival.

Set a budget for how much you’d like to spend on tickets and choose your top several shows to try and see. Be ready to buy tickets fast! Once reviews are released, performances are known to sell out quickly.

Embrace the Fringe Spirit

Orlando Fringe encourages everyone to explore boldly and enjoy trying something new and unexpected.

It’s truly one of Orlando’s most joyful (and affordable) cultural experiences, with a legacy spanning three and a half decades.
