Live music performances return to the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center– on the front yard! The verdant mall surrounded by high-rise buildings and city hall provides a stunning backdrop for a gorgeous night of quality outdoor entertainment. Performing artists who have or will soon grace the lawn during the Frontyard Festival include El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Wynton Marsalis, Step Afrika!, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and Smith & Myers.
Dr. Phillips felt the time was right to reinvigorate the community and provide support for the entertainment industry in a safe manner that keeps its patrons and artists safe. From December 2020 to May 2021, you and your family or party of five can reserve a socially distant box from which to watch live music, dance, comedy, films, and unique cultural experiences. Food and drinks from your favorite local restaurants will be available for purchase.
Sleighbells are ringing and Jolly old St. Nicholas is making his way to ICON Park! Holiday spirit runs aplenty at the Santa Workshop Experience. Your joyous celebrations begin as soon as you park. Hop aboard the Pearl Express Train as it transports families from the parking garage into a winter wonderland complete with your favorite festivities, which is really the ICON Park in brilliant disguise. Don’t forget to schedule your child’s photoshoot with Santa! This year, children won’t be able to get close to Santa, but his elves have really stepped in to create a totally safe atmosphere. With their magic touch and creative angles, your photos will look like your kids are standing next to the jolly old man at this year’s SANTAtized photo op. On Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Mrs. Clause stops by for stories and cookie decorating with the kids (separate reservations required). Holiday spirit requires some energy from special drinks and sweets, so fill your tummies with hot or frozen chocolate drinks and gingerbread cookies, sold at The Wheelhouse Market Food Hall. End the night with an epic flight on the Wheel inside your own Christmassy capsule decked out in twinkly lights. Maybe you and your family can guess how Santa and his crew might fly through Orlando? It’ll be a Christmas to remember while keeping you and yours safe.
The North Shore Birding Festival, Dec. 3-7, 2020, is perfect for visitors interested in learning more about local wildlife. The festival highlights the St. Johns River Water Management District’s 20,000-acre Lake Apopka North Shore, a birding hotspot. There are 42 field trips over 4 days with built-in COVID-19 precautions. Trips allow driving into parts of the North Shore otherwise inaccessible except on foot or bicycle, while other trips explore other areas of Central Florida in search of local specialty birds. There are three Sunrise Photography and Birding trips, and this year two owl and Whip-poor-wills walks, as well as a star walk at Wekiwa Springs State Park. Each trip has a charge of $10-70, which supports Orange Audubon Society’s nature and environmental center fund or related educational programs. There is no additional festival registration fee. If you have any questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (407) 637-2525.
