Paddleboarding in Orlando

With the weather getting nice and warm, now is the perfect time to get out on the water and explore Florida’s nature on a paddleboard. These 5 local spots are close enough to Orlando that they make the perfect way to spend the day when you’re here on vacation!

Wekiwa Springs

Paddling at Wekiwa Springs lets you experience the historic scenery at your owwn pace. Paddleboards are available for rent at $20 for one hour, $35 for four hours, or $65 for the whole day. Wekiwa Springs is just a short 30 minute drive from Orlando in the city of Apopka.

Lake Killarney

Located just outside of Orlando in Winter Park, Lake Killarney offers paddleboarders an opportunity to hone their skills and enjoy the scenery in an alligator-free environment. The paddleboard rental shop is located near the lake. Daily rentals range from $25 to $75.

Sunglow Pier

About an hour’s drive located in the city of Daytona, Sunglow Pier is a staple for locals and has hosted the East Coast Paddleboard & Surf Championships in the past, so you know it’s the perfect place to get some quality paddling in. If you’re a local you’re welcome to bring your own, or you can rent from any one of the many surf shops around.

Rainbow River

This one is a little farther away than some, but is well worth the trip. The Rainbow River is one of many spring-fed rivers in Florida, and gives paddlers a breathtaking experience with the crystal-clear waters that allow views of all the vegetation and aquatic life beneath the surface. They charge by the trip and not by the hour as well, so you’re free to take as much time as you’d like on your adventure. Shuttle service takes you to the launch are from where you wish to enter the river. All you have to do is take the current downstream to where you parked. Tubing down the always-cool water from the springs is a great way to cool off on a hot day as well.

Lake Ivanhoe Park

With a backdrop of buildings from downtown Orlando situated against the still waters near the I-4 bridge, paddleboarding at Lake Ivanhoe Park is a unique experience. The park is in the heart of downtown, so when you’re finished up you can keep exploring the city.
