The summer blockbuster season seems to be starting a bit early this year, with some big draws hitting theaters this May. Check out the trailers below and start planning some time to check out these movies!

Pokémon Detective Pikachu

10 May 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely PG or PG-13)

Pokémon is one of the most recognizable franchises in the world, and while it is no stranger to the movie screen, this is the first time it will be in theaters in a different form from its traditional animation style. This blend of real world acting and CGI is something that could really benefit the franchise, and this new movie looks to be a great first step into that world. Not to mention that Ryan Reynolds is voicing the main Pokémon character, and pretty much anything he touches at this point is almost guaranteed to be gold.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

17 May 2019 | Rated R

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns to the big screen in the third installment of this action-packed series. The super-assassin has to watch his back after taking out a member of an international assassin’s guild and having a bounty put on his head, drawing the attention of ruthless hitmen anywhere he goes. This movie looks to keep up the edge-of-your-seat energy of the first two, and is sure to be more than worth the price of admission.

24 May 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely PG)

Aladdin is a story that is close to the hearts of many people. The original (and dare I say classic) 1992 Disney film features a star performance from the late, beloved Robin Williams as Genie. Fortunately, this live-adaptation seems to be headed in the right direction, at least in so far as the casting. Will Smith is playing Genie. If his performance is even half of what Robin Williams brought to the original, audiences are in for a treat.

Ad Astra

24 May 2019 | Not Yet Rated (Likely PG-13 or R)

Not much has been revealed about Ad Astra as of yet, besides a cast list and a basic summary. But knowing that the movie will star Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and Donald Sutherland is enough to pique general interest in many moviegoers. IMDb’s summary hints at what’s to come: “Astronaut Roy McBride travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet.” Count this author and movie fan in.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

31 May 2019 | PG-13

Anyone who has heard the name “Godzilla” knows what to expect from a movie given that title. It’s a giant dinosaur fighting other huge beasts to be crowned “King of the Monsters,” just like the title says. This isn’t a movie that you go to watch for the plot or the cast, as great as they may seem (seriously, Millie Bobbie Brown and Vera Farmiga deserve all sorts of acclaim). This is a movie that you go watch on the big screen to see Godzilla duke it out with Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. Do yourself a favor and go see it.

Robin Hood

PG-13 | 21 November 2018

Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Eddie the Eagle) takes his turn in the titular role of Robin Hood as he and his commander (Jamie Foxx) lead a revolt against the English monarchy in this modern retelling of a classic folktale. Expect exciting action and fast-paced fight choreography throughout this movie!

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald

NR | 16 November 2018

This sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is the second installment in the latest series to take place in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. The series, set 70 years before the events in Harry Potter, centers around Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his adventures. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald follows our hero as he aids a familiar face in catching a dangerous criminal.

Creed II

NR | 21 November 2018

Fresh off of becoming the new light heavyweight champion, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) trains under his coach Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) before facing off against Viktor Drago, son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). This sequel to the Rocky spinoff is bound to maintain the emotion and action that carried its predecessor film and series.

The Grinch

PG | 9 November 2018

This reboot of a familiar holiday classic sees Benedict Cumberbatch taking up the mantle of the eponymous Grinch in a story that is sure to warm the hearts of kids and adults alike during the colder holiday season. It is a tale we all know and love, and Cumberbatch looks poised to do justice to the Dr. Seuss character previously brought to life by Boris Karloff and Jim Carrey.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

NR | 21 November 2018

Set six years after Wreck-It Ralph, this follow-up to the 2012 hit takes Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) on a new adventure into and around the internet as they hunt for a way to save their broken game. The star-studded cast includes a whole host of Disney princesses with many of their original voice actors reprising their famed roles.

Bohemian Rhapsody

NR | 2 November 2018

In a month full of notable sequels and reboots, Bohemian Rhapsody comes to theaters as a breath of fresh air. This biopic chronicles the band Queen’s time preceding and culminating in their 1985 performance at Live Aid in front of a 1.9 billion-person TV audience. Rami Malek stars as front-man Freddie Mercury in what is essentially a celebration of Queen and their legacy in the music world.
