A Look Back at 2016: Top Openings in Orlando

The end of 2016 marked the end of a huge year for entertainment in Orlando. The ever-evolving city brought us additions to our favorite attractions, and all new entertainment for us to enjoy. There are almost too many to count, but here are a few of our favorite openings of 2016:

Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Universal’s Islands of Adventure brought the legend of Kong back to Orlando in a big way. The new attraction features mysterious unknowns and scary surprises from beginning to end. You embark on a tour around Skull Island led by your fearless tour guide, but things soon go awry. Will Kong let you escape from his home unscathed? The only way to find out is to see for yourself.

SeaWorld’s Mako makes a big Splash

SeaWorld has made big changes to their lineup of attractions in recent years, and 2016 was no different. Mako takes after one of the most fearsome creatures of the sea with its massive size and speed, and is sure to put a smile on any thrill seekers face.

Disney Springs

The successor to Downtown Disney, Disney Springs proudly opened the final phase of their transformation in the latter part of 2016. The final area to be opened is named the Town Center, and is the epicenter of the entertainment district with 23 retail shops, and gourmet treats from celebrity chefs Rick Bayless and Art Smith.

The Star Wars Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

With the end of 2015 bringing us the first installment in a brand new Star Wars trilogy, we had a feeling that Disney would do something big to celebrate – and we were right. The Star Wars spectacular is a nightly celebration that includes fireworks, a laser show, and gigantic video projections of iconic characters and scenes from the series.

As if Orlando didn’t have enough entertainment options before, 2016 took it up a notch, giving us much more to enjoy for years to come.
