Hurricane Relief for Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief
Hurricane Maria was the strongest storm to hit Puerto Rico in more than 80 years. More than three weeks after the storm hit much of the island remains without power and water. This crisis hits close to home here in Florida where longtime residents are no strangers to the destruction caused by massive storms. Our freshest reminder was Hurricane Irma, which hit a majority of the state this past September. Responding to the calls for help from our neighbors in Puerto Rico, communities across the state have banned together to box meals, gather donations, and collect money.

One of the most common ways to help is by donating first aid and personal care staples, as storms of this magnitude leave many without access to basic essentials. Last month Rosen Hotels & Resorts collected items such as soap, deodorant, diapers, bug repellent, and first aid kits. Employees and fellow Orlando community members brought donations to Rosen Plaza, which were distributed to the island by United for Puerto Rico. These items, combined with other supplies collected by communities across Florida, are playing a significant role in the recovery of Puerto Rico. To date, United for Puerto Rico has already distributed 41,017 donations. Currently, United for Puerto Rico is accepting monetary donations on their website, which will assist in funding further hurricane relief.

Rosen Hotels & Resorts continues to show its support for Puerto Rico by volunteering at the “Orlando Cares: Hope for Puerto Rico” project by Feeding Children Everywhere. “Orlando Cares: Hope for Puerto Rico” has set a goal to package and deliver 4.4 million meals to those in need across the island. As of October 8th they had 1 million packaged meals. Anyone can volunteer; all ages are welcome. Short, 1 – 2 hour shifts are available at various times throughout the day until October 22nd. This is a great activity to do with family, friends, or even on date night as you bond over helping fellow citizens in need.

Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando is the closest hotel to where Feeding Children Everywhere is hosting “Orlando Cares: Hope for Puerto Rico” (at the North Concourse of the Orange County Convention Center). Editor’s Note: An estimated 150 boxes of donations were packaged and sent to Puerto Rico by Rosen Hotels & Resorts.
